Big Baldy Ridge

Date: 2023-07-26 -> 2023-07-28

Big Baldy Mountain is the highest and most prominent mountain in the Frank Church Wilderness area West of the Middle Fork of the Salmon River. The ridge is located a decent distance inside the Wilderness Area and is located above the Middle Fork of the Salmon River between Pistol Creek and Indian Creek. This climb starts along the edge of the wilderness area and follows Big Baldy Ridge to the summit. This was a three day camping trip in which I climb over 9 peaks along the ridge including Chilcoot Peak, Trapper Mountain, Pistol Rock, multiple points along Big Baldy Ridge, and Baldy Mountain. Camped along Big Baldy Ridge the first night and the inlet to Buck Lake the second night.

Hurwal Divide

Date: 2023-07-13

The Hurwal Divide is a long ridge in the Eagle Cap Wilderness Area between Hurricane Creek and the West Fork of the Wallowa River near Joseph Oregon. The main goal of the climb was to reach the top of the Matterhorn, the second highest mountain in Eagle Cap. Once atop the Matterhorn, I followed the ridge north over all the points along the Hurwal Divide to end up at Chief Joseph Mountain above the town of Joseph and Wallowa Lake.

The Fin

Date: 2023-07-05

The Fin is one of the higher points in the Pioneer Mountains and is the next point along the ridge from Standhope Peak. This was a good loop up Broad Caynon to the top of The Fin. We also went over the top of Standhope Peak, before returning back to the trail head.

Griswold Peak

Date: 2023-06-29

Griswold Peak is an an eleven thousand foot peak in the Boulder Mountains which is also the highest point in the Jim McClure-Jerry Peak Wilderness Area. The peak is named after one of the original USGS surveyors who were trying to map the Idaho mountains. Here is a loop starting up the North Fork of the Big Lost River which goes over two ten thousand foot points along with Griswold Peak.

Jarbidge Ridge

Date: 2023-06-10

The Jarbidge mountains are centered around a high mountain ridge just south of the Idaho border in Nevada. Here is my climb of the ridge from the highest point, The Matterhorn, over Jumbo Peak and Square Top to the namesake Jarbidge peak.

Bennet Mountain

Date: 2023-05-21

Bennet Mountain is a fairly prominent mountain outside of Mountain Home that I have seen driving around it on Highway 20. Due to its location and prominence the mountain has lots of towers atop of it. Here is my climb over both summits of Bennet Mountain.

Ada County Highpoint

Date: 2023-05-13

The highest point in Ada County is along the Boise Ridge. This is my climb starting at the Upper Hull's Gulch trail head and hiking up to the high point and back.

Deer Butte and Pinnacle Peak

Date: 2023-03-22

Deer Butte and Pinnacle Peak are two points on the rim above the lower Owyhee River in Oregon. This was loop starting at Snively Hot springs on the Owyhee River going over both points.

Ross Peak

Date: 2022-09-04

Ross Peak is an eleven thousand foot peak on the Lost River Mountains named after Clyde Polhemus Ross (1891-1965). CP Ross was a geologist who served the US Geological Survey for over 40 years and focused mostly on Idaho, including creating one of the first geological maps of the full state.

Gabriel's Horn

Date: 2022-07-04

Gabriel's Horn is another eleven thousand foot peak along the divide between Wild Horse Creek and Fall Creek. This peak shares the same divide as Angel's Perch, and was named to be a second angel in the Pioneer Mountains, giving balance with two devil bedsteads and two angels.
