Castle Peak

Date: 2008-09-13

Castle Peak is a very Prominent peak in Idaho. At an elevation of 11,815 feet it is a good amount taller than it's surrounding neighbors and as such can be spotted from many peaks though out the state.

Ruffneck Peak

Date: 2008-08-22 -> 2008-08-24

Ruffneck Peak is part of a group of granite crags that follow a ridge line above the upper Middle Fork. The main ridge extends from Ruffneck Peak and follows the Middle Fork north to Big Solider Mountain. Ruffneck Peak is the tallest of these peaks at 9,407 feet and has a old lookout on its summit.

The White Knobs

Date: 2008-08-07 -> 2008-08-09

The White Knob Mountains are a ridge of mountain located between the Lost River Mountains and the Pioneer Mountains outside of Mackay Idaho. I took a back dirt road up and over the edge of the White Knobs and dropped down into Copper Basin. I then climbed to the top of Wildhorse Look out which provided a grand view of both the Pioneers and the Lost River Mountains.

Leatherman Peak

Date: 2008-08-06

Leatherman Peak is the second tallest mountain in the state of Idaho at an elevation of 12,230 feet. During a multiple day camping excursion into the Upper Pahsimeroi, Jason and I climbed to the top of Leatherman Peak from the trail head up the West Fork of the Pahsimeroi.

Mount Breitenbach

Date: 2008-08-04

Mount Breitenbach is the 5th tallest mountain in Idaho at an elevation of 12,140 feet. This was one of the two mountains we climbed on a multiple day trip up into the Upper Pahsimeroi River. From our camp near the end of the road East Fork to the Pahsimeroi, Jason and I took an non standard route around Mount Breitenbach's impressive north face to its south side, then up a gully on its south side.

Bald Mountain

Date: 2008-07-05

Bald Mountain is a 10,313 foot peak in the Salmon River Mountains. As one of the largest mountains in the range, it is aptly named. There is very little vegetation on the mountain and the peak is covered mostly with smooth thin flat stones stones that were interesting to walk upon.

The Middle Fork

Date: 2008-05-17 -> 2008-05-21

The Middle Fork of the Salmon River runs a hundred miles though the heart of the Salmon River Mountains in the Frank Church Wilderness. Besides for a single road which allows for boat access near the headwaters at Boundary Creek, the only access to the Middle Fork is by trail or plane. The river is one of the more popular week long trips in which there is a lottery system for the permits. The Middle Fork Canyon is carved deep into the Salmon River Mountains and is a sight that I hope to return to many times.

Cache Peak

Date: 2007-08-25

Cache Peak is a 10,339 foot peak towering south of the Snake River near the Idaho/Utah boundary. Cache Peak is located in the Albion Mountains and is the highest peak south of the Snake River in Idaho. Being a ten thousand foot plus peak and the highest in the local region it was a climb we have talked about from time to time, and the time ended up begin the night of August 25th, 2007.

Seven Devils

Date: 2007-07-29 -> 2007-08-04

The Seven Devils are a group of rugged mountain peaks located between the Snake River and the Rapid River. The peaks top out at an elevation of 9,400 feet and drop steeply into Hells Canyon to an elevation around 1200 feet. In this trip to the Seven Devils we spent seven days and climbed seven devils, a goblin and an ogre.

Mount Loening

Date: 2007-07-14

Mount Loening is the tallest peak on the Tango Peak Ridge located roughly between Loon Creek and the West Fork to the Yanky Fork of the Salmon River. This set of peaks, located on a southern nob of the Frank Church, seems to see less traffic than the adventure 'hot' spots which I do enjoy.
