Angel's Perch
Date: 2022-06-30
Angel's Perch is a eleven thousand foot peak on the ridge between Fall Creek and Wildhorse Creek in the Pioneer Mountains. These are pictures from a loop I did over the top of Angel's Perch up Fall Creek.
Lake Creek Peaks
Date: 2021-07-18
Lake Creek flows into Copper Basin in the Pioneer Mountains. This creek has a large upper basin with ten or so lakes in it. There is a nice ATV trail (50 inch max width) that loops though the lakes, and the ridges on both sides of the creek have multiple eleven thousand foot mountains, with the tallest being Smiley Mountain at the head of the creek. These are pictures of a loop I did in which I climbed 4 peaks on both sides of the creek, which include The Ramp, Double U, Atlas Peak, and an unnamed ten thousand foot peak.
Huhs Horn
Date: 2021-07-11
Huh's Horn is a ranked eleven thousand foot point on the Scott Mountain ridge. Huhs Horn was named after a Geologist Oscar Huh who studied the rocks in the area. When I was last up Scott Peak, I didn't summit this point, so this is a return trip with a friend of mine to climb Huh's Horn. To do this we climbed over Scott Peak, and followed the ridge over Webber Peak to the Clark County high point.
The General
Date: 2021-07-05
The General is one of the higher mountains in the Salmon River Mountains along the boundary of the Frank Church River of no Return Wilderness area. This climb was a multiple peak climb in which I followed a ridge along the wilderness over three 10,000+ foot peaks. I started up a jeep trail on the backside of Mount Jordan. From there climbed up top of Mount Jordan, then followed the ridge to The General. From here, I walked a mile along a 10,000 foot ridge into the wilderness area to summit an unranked peak and back. I then continued along the ridge to the last peak of the day, peak 10,0006. From there I dropped down into the valley and walked through an old burn back up and over a saddle to the trail head. I saw multiple mountain goats and elk along the way.
Dickey Peak
Date: 2021-06-28
Dickey Peak is the most Prominent peak north Double Springs Pass in the Pahsimeroi sub-range of the Lost River Mountains. This was a quick early morning climb to the summit and back.
Oxford Peak
Date: 2021-06-18
Oxford Peak is the 10th most prominent peak in Idaho, with an elevation of 9300 feet. The peak is located just north of the Utah border outside of the town of Malad Idaho. This climb was a loop from New Canyon Creek which gave us wonder views of the area.
Aldape Peak
Date: 2021-06-11
Aldape Peak is a ranked peak in the Boise Foothills located between Rocky Canyon and Lucky Peak. This was an afternoon climb to the summit and back.
Black Pine Mountains
Date: 2021-05-28
The Black Pine Mountains are a prominent ridge of mountains along the Idaho/Utah border. The highest point in the mountain, Black Pine Peak, is the 8th most prominent peak in the state of Idaho, with over 4,000 feet of prominence. These mountains seem to be fairly unknown except for the locals and probably see little visitors. The main ridge is about a mile long, and the two high points are within a foot of each other at 9386 and 9386 feet. My climb was a wonderful long walk in which I walked up one broad ridge, looped around and followed the full ridge to reach both summits. I then dropped down the far side back to camp, but not before I climbed up one more ranked peak at the end.
Upper Boulder Chain Lakes
Date: 2020-08-12 -> 2020-08-14
The Boulder Chain Lakes is a scenic mountain valley that contains 12 different lakes in the White Cloud Mountains. I took a weekend to backpack into the Upper lakes, using a cross country route from the back side. This took us up over a ridge known as the Devil's Staircase, then over Windy Devil Pass, and down into the lakes. The goal of the trip was to climb Cardiac Peak. We made it all the way up to the class 4 crux of the climb. But due to the crumbling limb stone, the exposure, not able to determine a decent route, we turned around a few hundred feet below the summit.
North Ryan Peak
Date: 2020-08-05
North Ryan Peak (or Red Ryan Peak) is a summit just north of Ryan Peak in the Boulder Mountains. I climbed this peak starting at the trail head up West Pass Creek, up the East Fork of the Salmon River. From there I climbed up the shoulder of the mountain above Cougar Caynon, and made my way across to a drainage on the Northwest face of the mountain, and followed this up to the summit.
